Redlining is a familiar, if poorly understood, word for the refusal to insure mortgages in black neighborhoods. Satter shows how it worked in vivid, personal terms. Her painstakingly thorough portrayal of the human costs of financial racism is, in my view, the most important book yet written on the black freedom struggle in the urban North

financial racism is as plentful today, as not to long ago, just more coverty

Minorities get paid less ! pay more for homes, cars, service etc...

Oddly enough, it seems to be racism with a twist. The obstacle course of stable, respectable financing has been unattainable for me as well, a white woman, (single mother).

They pick and choose their nuclear families, I suppose, and give the best breaks to those they deem "fit" to do business with.

big problem with control they cant control themselves but want to control everybody else

and I can see you are talking about the Murphy Brown syndrome.

Discrimination comes in all shapes size and colors, and those that want to control things always like nice neat little packages no matter how unrealistic

This is proving to be true. I've been to a couple of ghettos, not, however, those that are in the worst of conditions. I've noticed through my years and miles just how extreme living conditions can be in ghettos. Throughout the country, Denver, Memphis, Dallas, the circumstances that people are living with, and are expected to thrive in, are unreasonable, to say the least.

On a side note, I know that the Murphy Brown syndrome is not nearly a comparison to white-on-black racism and the mentality that surrounds it. I just wanted to note that those in control of things are not limiting their discrimination to skin color.

I understand and it doesn't matter what or who its just plain discrimination

and when it is against you, it matters

if it happens to you best believe its the norm, with many other like yourself,

also you as a single White female head of household your test case would be a White male single or married with a spouse who does not work

and the big problem there is first off if you and him had the same job type he is 10 times more likely to be earning more then you

I could go on about the financial cycle of discrimination and racism

of how you pay more for things, get less money, in the end which could effect your credit, which then can be use against you

so there is a cycle of discrimination on the financial side in full swing

best thing is to speak out about it so that your daughters, might not have to go through the same thing, because people rarely change their ways on their own

unless you point out the problem or make waves so to speak

        .

I'm actually pretty good at that. ;-)

The money games that have ruled the world looks like they have finally come full circle. I am anxiously waiting to see what regulations are amended, adjusted, rectified, and rewritten. It would be nice to see a change that we can afford to live with.
